I was able to go to the VA yesterday and get all of my qualifications done. I finished my last pes today. I will move on to next semester after all.
I don't know what I am going to do about getting my last quads of a class three. I had two pts today that I thought might qualify, but neither did. Maybe there will be a chance to go to the VA. On the plus side, I did get a mock board pt for February 5. She would be a really good board pt because she has spaces between all of her front teeth, but all of her molars have contacts like they need.
Today was a productive day. I was able to see a 1b in the morning and two kids in the afternoon, along with bringing my pt back from last week to do the caries risk assessment. It was a fun day.
My pt was fun today. He was only a class 1b and apparently is going into medical school. He was very interested in everything and asked lots of questions. It felt good that I new the answers. I didn't realize how much I have been learning and I am actually remembering something. I am bringing him back to do a caries risk assessment next week.
I didn't do as well as I wish I would have. I felt like I did not have enough time. It became even more evident when I was re probing. I Think I could almost feel the calculus better with the probe than with the explorer. Good thing this was just mock boards. I need to work on applying more lateral pressure and extending towards the toe and the tooth.
Today I saw a class 3 pt in the morning and a class 5 pt in the afternoon. My class 3 pt kept choking on the ultra sonic so I had to instrument by hand. By the end my hand was tierd. I need to work on my time. I did OK but I felt like I could have gone faster.
Today we had a lab and had apt in the afternoon. I thought this pt's calculus pattern was very interesting. He was a class 1b but did not have calculus in the normal areas, but had it everywhere else. This was the first time he had been to WSU. It seemed as though his hygienist only cleaned the normal build up areas and never checked the others. It made me think about my own standard of care when I leave the school. I don't want to work in an office that rushes me so much that I don;t feel I can do my job effectively.
