Clinic October 25

We learned how to scale posterior teeth. I think it is fun to see everything we have been learning come together. I have been wondering, how much bleeding is normal when you scale a patient with fairly healthy gum tissue? I guess I am wondering what I should shoot for and if it is realistic to think you should eventually be able to do it with out making your patient bleed. I guess this is a question I should ask in clinic.

Clinic October 23

Today we learned how to use the intra oral camera. It was kind of wierd getting used to the way the camera projects . I think it is amazing how much detail you can see.

Today we went through everything we have already learned. I didn't realize how much we have learned. All I can say is I am really slow. My goal should be to keep the appointmant moving so I can cut down on time. I also found out that looking up medication information can be difficult. especially when you don't know how to spell the drugs name.

Clinic October 11

today we worked on putting packets of instruments together. There are a lot of instruments, but it is exciting to get to know the differences and start to be able to identify them. I practiced exploring again. Wow it is amazing how much you forget in a few weeks. But it does come back faster. I am going to have to practice this over the week and weekend.

Clinic October 9

Today we used disclosing agent to find where we are struggling with home care. My lab partner almost died by drowning. Next time I will sit them up to have them swish. during instruction, I also found that I have not been flossing correctly. I was not able to finish probing this time, but I think I am getting faster and more comfortable with it. Next time we get to go through everything we have learned from the start. I will have to review to make sure I remember it all.

Clinic October 4

Today we worked on dental screening. This is th efirst time I have ever tried to determine composite feelings from actual tooth. I always thought they blended alot better. I learned the difference visually between composite fillings and sealants. There is alot to learn, like what all the different coloration abnormalities indicate, and what is with in normal limits.

Clinic October 2

today I got the hole mouth done wich is twice as much as last time. So it's fun to see improvement there. Going back to the scaler at the end was wierd thoug. It feels like I forgot alot so I need to review that again. tHIS IS FUN STUFF!

Clinic September 27

Probing seems to be even more difficult to me then exploring. I have a hard time knowing when I've reached the bottom of the sulcus. Adapting into the col area is probably the most difficult to me. I don't know though because it is also hard for me to walk the probe and keep it from coming out of the sulcus. I wonder if it is easier on someone who needs it done rather than on someone with healthy tight gingiva. This week is the first I've really felt overwhelmed with the work load. There just seems to be more and more information to keep track of. It could be too, it is our first real test friday.
