Clinic September 25

Today we worked on adapting the explorer again. I feel a little more comfortable roatating my wrist. I still struggle with grasping too tight. I think I need to practice still of coarse since i've done it twice. I have a hard time focusing on everything all at once.

Today we learned instrumentation of an explorer. It is fun to see how everything we've been learning is coming together. I struggle with trying to focus on everything all at once, sitting up straight, fulcruming, using the proper grip, rotating your wrist and adapting to the tooth, placement of the light and mirror. I felt more comfortable with it by the end of class, but I am still awkward, I only made my patient bleed a couple times. As most of these things I think it will come easier with practice. I think it made a huge differance that we had so much help in clinic.

The intra oral exam seems alot more involved then the extra oral exam. There are so many things to remember. I think it is also difficult to tell what is abnormal. We are looking and feeling for lumps and bumps outside of norm. When I feel the cheeks and lips, I feel bumps, but appearantly that is normal. I don't know if I will be able to tell if there are abnormal bumps. I guess that is something you get a feel for when you feel multipul mouths and you get a feel for what is normal.

Today wel learned about extra oral exams. It is difficult to really tell what is normal and what is abnormal. The people I checked were normal. Maybe when I have something to contrast to I will understand what abnormal is.

today we did vital signs. I think this will just take a little practice. It is not too hard.

We learned how to do health histroies and it was very helpful to have TAs there to guid us through them. they are still slightly hard to keep in order, but I think it will become second nature as I do them more and more.

Clinic August 30

It is fun trying to barrier everything. It's even funner playing hide and go seek when your taking the barriers all off. I think it would make it easier if I had a routine down for putting them up and taking them down/ disinfecting. Does anybody have an order that works for them?

I am excited about this year. Unit #3 is the best room I have to say. I'm glad we got our rooms all set up and ready to go.
